Cape Spear, Maddox Cove and Petty Harbour

When we came out of the Geo Centre, we discovered sunshine. That's something we hadn't seen in a while. After lunch in the parking lot, we trekked across town, not a fun thing in our rig, and went to Cape Spear National Park. As mentioned before, this is the Easternmost point of North America. This time we had a chance to hike around and go up to the lighthouse on the hill as well as the original lighthouse. From atop the hill one could easily see Cabot tower and cliffs of St. Francis.

We then drove down to Maddox Cove and Petty Harbour. These fishing villages are severely affected by the ban on certain forms of fishing. In the 1960's processing 1,250,000 pounds of cod in a year at Petty Harbour was typical.

Back at Pippy Park for the fifth and last night, the odometer reads 66,561.
