We drove the TCH to Notre Dame PP covering over 300 miles. The TCH is the Trans Canadian Highway #1 (the only one Newfoundland has) which reminded me of the Alaska Highway. Mostly rocks and pine trees along the way with occasional groves of birches. Not especially scenic unless going near the coast or a lake. It is mostly a two lane road with an extra lanes on uphill stretches. It would be like a trucker lane except that it has priority over the "passing" lane. They have "YIELD" painted in the passing lane at the point the lanes merge. The road does zig-zag across Newfoundland and adds considerably to as the crow flies distance.
With the help of our GPS, we got off the TCH briefly to go into the town of Corner Brook to buy some groceries. On the way out of town we noticed a Walmart right near the TCH that would have been much more convenient. It was by no means a new store, so the GPS data is clearly not very complete.
At Notre Dame PP, the odometer read 66,230.
